Company Updates
Training Initiatives
We are thrilled to announce that our team has started Level 3 Beach School training, opening up new opportunities within the education sector. This training equips us to deliver high-quality, beach-based educational programs that will inspire and educate the next generation about marine conservation.
Beach Rangers.
The funding from Seascapes is coming to an end and with it, the beach rangers could too. We at The Sea We See would like to continue to support this group as part of the legacy of Seascapes and hopefully obtain more funding. To announce the new ownership we are rebranding to Guardians of the Coast and generating some merchandise to support the administration, sadly we will have to request a small contribution per family.

Project Updates:
"Springs to Seas" Video
We are developing an engaging video based on the 2024 Marine art exhibition theme "Springs to Seas." This video will be available in December and introduced in schools and nurseries through brief, free assemblies. It's a fantastic way to bring ocean literacy into young people and spark curiosity about marine environments.
Guardians of the Coast
We are creating a website and blog in the new year so you can follow along, look back and learn, but most of all share and support the protection and love of our coast.
Sea Monsters from Mythology

This is a personal favourite Jörmungandr: The Midgard Serpent Jörmungandr, also known as the Midgard Serpent, is a legendary sea monster from Norse mythology. This colossal serpent is said to encircle the world, grasping its own tail. According to myth, when Jörmungandr releases its tail, it will signal the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world. Its enormous size and fearsome reputation have made it a fascinating subject in mythology and a favourite among marine monster enthusiasts
Sea Cuties: The Spotlight on Local Creatures
Keep an eye out for some delightful feathered visitors this season:

Brünnich's Guillemot:
These seabirds are known for their striking black and white plumage and can often be seen diving for fish along the coast

Snow Bunting:
These charming birds migrate to our shores during the winter months. Their white and brown feathers blend beautifully with the snowy landscape, making them a true winter delight.
Seasonal Changes what to expect in your coastal zone
November/December Weather on the County Durham Coast: As we head into November and December, expect colder temperatures along the County Durham coast. Average highs range from 6°C to 8°C (43°F to 46°F), with lows dipping to 2°C to 4°C (36°F to 39°F). Be prepared for frequent rain showers, brisk winds, and the occasional frosty morning. These storms will raise the waves and potentially close The Slope to swimmers on occasion. This is the perfect time to bundle up and enjoy the rugged beauty of our coastline. Be mindful of offshore breezes when walking on the cliffs and large waves or rough seas when walking on the beaches or entering the sea. The water temperature are noticeably dropping now and the surface layer will be frequently measuring less than 10deg C. The nights and mornings are so much darker, remember being seen is very important, take a torch and consider lighting up your tow float if you are swimming in the dark.
Blue Space Health and Wellness
The Benefits of Blue Space Explore the mental and physical health benefits of spending time near the ocean.
