Shrimp/Prawns on the tide line

I have spent a lot of time on the beach over the years, but this was a new one on me!

Beautiful patterns on the shale, often these are made by seafoam, seaweed or litter. Very occasionally it is a tide of creatures.

What we found was clear and shiny like crystals on close inspection, tube like with a big black dot. Then - Oh My look - it's shrimp! then come the questions, How? Why? Where from? What happened?

So, given that biology was never, ever my thing, categorising these creatures there on the beach was not possible beyond "shrimp". Are they old, or young what is their habitat?

So the research begins.....

We collected a small sample and hope to get them to a marine biologist as soon as we can.

Follow this blog to find out what we find out.
